Copper Care Guide

Copper is a beautiful, living metal that changes over time — with a little care, your pieces will stay looking their best for years to come.

Daily Wear Tips

  • Remove your copper pieces before swimming (pool or sea), showering, exercising, or applying lotions, perfumes, and hairsprays.
  • A good rule for all jewellery: make it the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off each day.
  • Store your pieces in the Jewels by Rachel boxes provided — they offer additional anti-tarnish protection.
  • Prevention is the best method — for daily wear items, keep them dry and wipe off skin oils and dirt with a jewellery cloth. You'll find one included with your Jewels by Rachel piece.
  • For pieces you don't wear as often, keep them in their box in a dry environment. If you live somewhere humid, consider adding a small silica gel packet to draw moisture away from your piece — you should also find one of these in your Jewels by Rachel box.

Copper & Skin

If you find copper marks your skin, it is likely reacting to your natural pH level. Barrier treatments applied to Jewels by Rachel pieces (unless otherwise requested) can minimise this, though they do not last forever. Lacquers and waxes are available for ongoing care to provide a protective barrier between skin and metal.

Removing Tarnish

A slice of salted lemon can help if a piece becomes tarnished. Be careful to rinse and fully dry the piece afterwards — water left on copper, brass, or bronze will cause tarnish if not dried thoroughly.

Flame-Painted & Patina Pieces

Pieces that are flame-painted or have a patina should be treated differently. Only consider the lemon method for bare copper pieces — patina and flame-painted finishes require special care to preserve their unique appearance.
